Mercan invests 16.8 million euros in a new hotel in Évora

The heart of the city of Évora will receive a new hotel, Holiday Inn Express, which is the result of a project by Mercan Properties in partnership with the leading hotel company IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Scheduled to open in summer 2023, this is a rehabilitation project of old buildings, located in the Portas de Avis area, which results from an investment of 16.8 million euros. This hotel will be close to the central square of the city of Évora, where the historic center is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“Holiday Inn Express Évora has a privileged location, integrated in an environment of great historical and cultural wealth. It is a rehabilitation project that demonstrates the growing touristic dynamism in the city of Évora, to which a world renowned hotel brand is added, representing another example of strong confidence in Portugal” stated Jordi Vilanova, president of Mercan Properties.

This project will create 30 direct jobs, and during the construction phase it will count with approximately 70 permanent workers.

This is a project with a modern and sophisticated concept, which contrasts with the historic city walls. The hotel, which will preserve a classic facade in line with the surrounding heritage, will have 76 rooms, swimming pool, restaurant, lounge bar and meeting rooms, offering quality accommodation. It is targeted at tourists who want to enjoy the history and culture of the city of Évora, while also being an ideal place for businesses.

This is Mercan Properties' second project in Évora, after the Hilton Garden Inn Évora, whose first stone was laid in 2021.
